Pride Month! Life Update
Stuff has been fucking CRAZY
I've been working on a really cool installation at Hudson Yards in NYC and it's been really cool. Very stressful, but very rewarding. This job is a literal dream come true though I'm still finding my footing re: work/life balance.
A metal arch of assymetric geometric shapes stretching from floor to ceiling. The faces of the structure have a holographic plexiglass plate that reflects light into many colors. Through the arch you can see the windows of Hudson Yards, with a view of NYC from a hundren stories up and the water.
Meeting deadlines has meant a lot of overtime and I haven't really been working on art so much. Don't worry! I do plan on getting back on track soon and I have a really cool project in mind. I did want to talk about some of the other things going on in my life in the meantime - for anyone that might care, lol.
School
Or should I say no school cuz I graduated! Officially!!
This past semester was kind of not a real semester ... I had already earned my credits and was sort of just working on my thesis show. I ended my time in college on a pretty sour note (may make a separate blog about this) but I'm trying to focus on positive. I got my degree, I made a thesis project I'm proud of, and now I can move on. School was one of the biggest hurdles between me and making art so I'm hoping I can find the space to start making some projects with no barriers.
Website
You may notice that my website has undergone some changes
I finally finished my Gallery Page! I'm so happy with how it came out. It took me a really long time to land on a design I was happy with, but I think the wait was ultimately worth it. It's really nice to have a professional landing page I can use for my art. I added a section to my gallery with tabling information also. Speaking of...
Anthrocon Artist Alley
I got a spot in the anthrocon artist alley!
I'm very excited for anthrocon this year. Some of you may remember that this time last year I was laid up in bed recovering from top surgery so I couldn't go to ac like I had planned. Luckily, I was able to defer my ticket for this year. With graduation and this big project at work and my own final project I am completely exhausted and really just need the time to rest, reconnect with friends, get freaky, and of course fursuit. I'm a maniac so I couldn't imagine spending my entire vacation without doing any work, so the artist alley will be the perfect thing to keep my paws moving. I plan on offering an assortment of on site physical comms that I think some furs will really love.
Speaking of Top Surgery
It's been a little over a year since I took that big leap! I've honestly never been happier. There were certainly some ups and downs and a lot of complications but I'm extremely happy with the end result. This is definitely my shirtless summer!
Some days it's actually crazy to think that there was a point where it was inconceivable that I could be a man. I look back on old photos like looking at a distant cousin I never quite got to know. 99% of the time my biggest gender concerns are getting my beard to fill in more x3 there's just something really special about that kind of euphoria
I do still aspire to bottom surgery, but I have a really nice level of comfort in my day to day life that I've just never had before and it's nice
Other? Moving?
I've been squirreling away all my acorns in the hopes of making a move. I wanted to finally have a place all to myself where I could dedicate a space just for art and really start seriously grinding on projects.
Unfortunately I've hit a huge road bump which is that I have literally no credit. I've never opened a line of credit so my score is undefined. This is making it impossible to find any places - even though I have multiple months up front. I'm probably gonna have to postpone and work on building my credit score a little which is disappointing but it does give me the opportunity to keep saving. I'm sure the right place will pop up eventually
It was a slow start but I'm finally going to be trying some medication to manage my mood better. I'm hoping this can help me be happier and less agitated. I guess we'll see. I'm honestly nervous and pessemistic but I'm at a point where I'll try anything
Closing Thoughts
We're about halfway through the year and I'm about halfway through my aspiration list for the year. It's nice to have some wins after what feels like so much struggle but it's scary, too. I can't help but feel like I'm just holding my breath waiting for everything to crumble away. It's hard and it's definitely weighing on me mentally. For the next half of the year I wanna focus more on my self improvement - my work/life balance, my self care, my maintenance, etc. My future still feels so uncertain and it's hard for me to move forward without clear goals to work towards, but I wanna make peace with this thing that's always pushing me for more and be able to just enjoy the now exaclty for what it is.
